ABELA SLEEPS 1972

ABELA SLEEPS 1972

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN AND WOMAN ON HOLIDAY IN 1972

"

Abela sleeps
a boozed out
kind of sleep

her hands held
between thighs
(hers not mine)

I watch her
beside me
lying there

her eyes closed
like pinks shells
dawn's light creeps

through the dull
white shutters
we had sex

hours back
drunkenly
she gabbled

about art
for the shop
modern stuff

then more sex
she calling
out loudly

TAKE ME NOW
LOVER BOY
now she sleeps

her small mouth
just ajar
small tongue

visible
when she wakes
we'll shower

together
we'll breakfast
soberly

in the cheap
hotel large
restaurant

where that neat
arse waitress
will serve us

now she snores
(dear Abela)
and I wait

hopefully
for more sex
like a wolf

at the gate.
