SILENT CRY 1997

SILENT CRY 1997

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A WOMAN MISSES HER LOVER ONE MORNING IN 1997 IN DUBLIN.

"

Una eats
her breakfast
she had had

a bad night
couldn't sleep
kept twisting

and turning
pretending
Nuala

was in bed
beside her
making love

in the way
that they had
earlier

that last day
she sips tea
looking out

the window
at the sky
cannon grey

heavy clouds
yesterday
Nuala

had come here
in this room
sitting on

the sofa
sipping wine
and talking

before they
went upstairs
to the bed

undressing
so quickly
then kissing

caressing
into bed
heating up

a fine stew
of touches
and kisses

and holding
following
each other's

directions
of this love
she can't come

here today
Una knows
Nuala

said that her
husband Brian
had made plans

for them both
to go out
for some meal

and film show
in Dublin
Una eats

her porridge
warm not hot
watching clouds

a dark grey
passing by
unaware

(as clouds are)
of her deep
silent cry.
