WONDERING AFTER.A Poem by Terry CollettA MAN WONDERS ABOUT AN OLD FLAME YEARS AFTERWARDS.Max wondered with whom she lay now, in whose arms she felt warm or safe. And who it was that kissed her and made love to her when time was right. It could have been him and not some other, he with whom she lay and not the other guy, in his arms she felt warm and safe not the guy she did after him, he who made love with her not the guy who got lucky and did the job. He wondered if she thought of him as he thought of her even while the other guy did his best and gave her some, wondered if for one moment she recalled him as the other guy was coming on, if she remembered at all his love making those years before this other guy came on the scene. He guessed not, sipped his latte, ate his cake, watched his lady play with the grand kids by the lake. © 2015 Terry Collett |
