A SKY OF STARS 1974A Poem by Terry CollettA BOY AND GIRL OVERSEAS ON A CAMPING TRIP IN 1974And Dalya met me at the burger bar at the last base camp guess it had to come to an end and next week we're back to our real lives back in the UK and work and stress and this will be but a memory she said yes I guess so I said but what a memory right back to two weeks ago when we met you and me and your brother and the rest of the crowd and that Yank dame in Germany and the crowded mini bus and the booze and the smokes and loud music at the camps and putting up and taking down of the tents after each base camp I could stay out here she said I could darn well get a job out here and say goodbye to home but you know what we're like not too adventurous too safe too cowardly she added hey and that time we first got it together and the Yank dame was having it away with the Aussie and you said I'm not sleeping alone and you didn't and she laughed and said and that bottle of booze and in the morning it was there empty as a spend drift's purse and she kissed me and we bought two burgers and fries and drank at other bars and walked off beneath a sky of stars. © 2015 Terry Collett |
