something to hide

there's no smoke
without fire

like there's always
an object
of sexual desire
but she’d always

let me
if I asked politely
or she’d say
you can't this week

Auntie's come to stay
and there was
the big pond
where we'd lay

and gaze at the sky
or watch
the ducks
on the water's skin

or kiss and talk
or go for a walk
or just laze
and absorb the days

she said
now the pond's
abandoned
and she is dead.
