Mended HeartsA Poem by NyxThe story of taking one’s heart and fixing it with your own two hands.
I stood at the tree where we first kissed
Peering into the night, an effervescent bliss You held my heart inside of your hands And you walked on the beach, kicking up sand I laughed and I cried, those stories you told Of the kids playing hopscotch, a lady picking rose You looked into my eyes with a penetrating gaze That told all of the stories your mouth couldn’t portray Of the times you fell and hurt your knees Or the times your father screamed for you to leave Left on the streets as a piece of waste You scoured the city for a place to stay And into my arms you fell one day As I took into my hands your heart of decay I stitched and sowed the broken pieces I laid you down flat to feel your heart beating Broken and bloody, I needed you to stay So whenever I felt it begin to fade I pulled out my sewing kit, sutchers and lace I sewed and I stitched, your heart starting to raise The beats started to increase, and to your heart I sang “Oh don’t leave me, that beautiful face I saw cross the meadow, flowers swaying in place You wore a crown I put on your head Covered in lilies and tulips, a picture of death You covered your body in thick molten lead I picked and I picked, breaking your body instead I picked up the pieces and with glue I filled The holes in your heart with my own bloody spill Each crack in your heart was filled with my time So I will love you forever, your heart will always be mine...” © 2019 NyxReviews
