Saved

Saved

A Poem by Teresa Bulger
"

A poem

"

I am a hushed tone in an overcrowded landfill of souls
Limbs are flying, hearts are dying, and I am full of holes
I am an empty shell, captivated by the angst, even the lust
We have deserted God and ourselves, so who do we trust?

I am screaming, dreaming for a change in my mangled disillusions
Their wails close in, with pierced screams echoing their confusions
I am fighting the crowds for a glimpse of God’s grace and mercy
They cry in their misery, cursing his name, but He will never desert me

I fumble through the crumbling bodies, crying out to the florescent light above
Darkness falls on this sea of the tortured, but then appears a beautiful dove
I hide my shamed eyes, as they burn from the beauty of His powerful grace
Away the dove flies, as tears of terror and peace cascade down on my face

The flashing light fades as the damned encircle me, calling out my every shame
I lift my eyes and arms to the heavens for a sign, calling out His holy name
The light reappears, as the disbelieving curse the name of God and fade into dust
He reaches his opening arms forward, as I am whisked away into eternity, with only my trust
