Les Femmes Misérables

Les Femmes Misérables

A Poem by Kelly B

Fantine: La Trahirée

Everything is gone from me now

Friends

Daughter

Lover

Dreams

Nothing remains of my hope

For the life I wanted

But I must go on

For her

What can I do?

Branded as a w***e

When I've only loved one man

My heart scarred ever since

Yet yearning to be in his arms again

No

I have to get by alone

To save my daughter

Betrayed by all

I must help her

Since I can't help myself

Lovely Ladies: Les Seules

Lovers to many

But loved by none

We are nothing to the world

Just pretty faces and willing bodies

Waiting on the streets

Seeking affection the only way we know how

A little more hope lost

With each man who comes and goes

A little more dignity destroyed

With every thrust

Dying a little more inside

As we smooth our skirts and fix our hair

Waiting for the next customer

Hoping he'll be the one

Giving everything of ourselves

Getting nothing in return

Cosette: La Perdue

All my life I've been searching

A childhood I don't remember

A mother seen only in dreams

A protective father

Why?

What happened to me?

To Papa?

Why do we hide?

And now him

I don't even know his name

Is this love?

Even so

It was barely a moment

How could he feel the same?

Yet somehow I feel

This boy on the street

Will be the one to answer all my questions

Eponine: L'invisible

I've lost him

Though he was never truly mine

Not looking for love

Blind to the devotion right in front of him

Now

Smitten with a stranger

Killing me with his words of love

Leaving me stuck

Between wanting his happiness

And just wanting him

All I want

Is to lie in his arms just once

One kiss from his lips

Before we part

For now I'm just a friend

Who'd go anywhere for him

Who would die for this lonely love

Women of Paris: Les Nulles

So much death

And for what?

Silly little boys

With their talk of a new life

Now that they're gone

What's changed?

All that remains for us is us

What can we do

But bitterly accept our fate?

Watching the world turn around us

Every cycle the same

I liked it. Very different, but interesting. My favorite line of the whole thing would have to be

Dying a little more inside

As we smooth our skirts and fix our hair.

Overall your words flow very nicely. I enjoyed the first one the most, but the second one had really nice word choice. Great job!
