Chapter 8: Reality Bites

Chapter 8: Reality Bites

A Chapter by Tenjho666

They were back in Capital " already. The walk down this new tunnel took far less time than it had to escape from Sect Mu. But here they were, in Sect Sigma, the gate to Zeta just a hundred metres away, protected by the two Guardians, as usual. This was bordering on suicidal. Adam sighed, and looked over at 'Tasha, studying the girl carefully for about 15 seconds, before turning away, blushing slightly.

Adam? You hear me? Adam nodded, relaying back his message.

Good. Alright, I have some information for you. Adam blinked, wondering what information Dai could possibly have...

Sect Zeta doesn't have as much of a Guardian presence as Mu. Adam blinked. How did Dai... Adam shook his head, Reila must've known something. Adam nodded again, focusing his thoughts on Dai's safety.

I'm fine. Just keep going and find this guy. I'm pretty sure you can carry someone by Attunation. Adam thought about it for a couple of seconds, and nodded, replying with a simple 'I'll try'.

'Kay. I might be... inconvenienced... for a while, but I'll try get as many messages through to you as I can...Adam wondered what the redhead meant, and was about to ask, when the connection was closed. Adam Koboltz sighed, and looked up again.

“'Tasha. There are less Guardians there than in Mu.” 'Tasha nodded slightly, before looking over the area with a sigh.

“But then how do we get there... from here?” Adam smirked, and stood up.

“We walk right in.”

Well, that was a stupid idea. Adam sighed and tilted his head down as he was dragged away by the Guardians that had been blocking the gate. ‘Tasha was smart " she’d stayed behind while he tried to get into Zeta. He turned around, and realised that they’d left the gate unguarded… With a grin, he watched a figure slip out of the shadows and through the gate. Looked like they were still in business. Once the Guardians were some distance away from the gate, he closed his eyes and focussed on ‘Tasha. Feeling his body pull through space, he appeared right next to the girl with a sigh.

“Looks like we’re in.” He smiled sheepishly and turned to her. She sighed.

“No thanks to you…” Her cold reply stung him slightly, but he thought nothing of it, yawning and looking around the Sect they were in.

“So this is Zeta…” He smiled softly, as the people that walked around them seemed to be pretty well-off. That meant more crime, but that also meant busy Guardians.

“Alright,” ‘Tasha’s voice cut in, “We need to find this Bara guy. We could start by asking around.” Adam nodded in reply, before double-taking slightly.

“Waitasec. Our faces are all over Capital. What’s to say they won’t dob us in?” ‘Tasha smirked knowingly.

“Well, we’re brutal killers, aren’t we?” Adam blinked in confusion. What did she…

“No we aren’t. You should know that by now.” ‘Tasha smirked, and pulled out both of the 9mm handguns, taking the magazines out and handing the now-empty weapon to Adam.

“Yeah. But they don’t.” Adam nodded slowly, finally understanding the method to her madness. He grinned, and gripped the weapon with ease, standing up quickly.

Darien Magnus was quietly walking to work on that day, when he suddenly felt the barrel of a handgun pushed into his back. Looking around slightly, he saw the face of Adam Koboltz " the kid who’s murdered his own mum and then ran away. Adam scowled at him.

“Don’t shout. Don’t make any sort of reaction. Just listen to me. Do you know someone named Bara? Kenton Bara.” The man began to sweat slightly. Why would this kid want to talk to Bara? He spoke, stuttering slightly.

“Everyone knows Bara. He’s some old crackpot out in the slums of Zeta.” He raised a hand, pointing in the direction of some squatter sheds. Adam nodded and made his face look as cruel as possible.

“Alright. Thank you for the information. I’ll let you live… for now…” The last couple of words came out of his mouth in a low growl, and Adam Koboltz snuck away, quiet as a shadow…

Reaching ‘Tasha, he smiled brightly, but received a scowl from the girl.

“You took too long. You could’ve been over-run by Guardians within seconds.” He shrugged.

“It’s not as easy as you’d think,” Adam replied, “I’d like to see you try and scare a man into submission.” ‘Tasha shrugged.

“Fine by me. Let’s just get the hell out of here…” Adam nodded, and pointed in the direction of the slums. That’s where Kenton Bara was, and that’s where they were to go.
