I set out into the dark
To fill my lungs with midnight air,
and catch the faintest glimpse
of Heaven as it would be here.
Hopeful of the wonders night held,
Stepping light, I stop to see them-
-the lightning bugs-
Hov'ring like living stars in the fields.
No voices, save my own,
and those of cricket kind;
Their harmonies' a song
Carried on the wind;
It rustles every blade of grass,
and I brush the stray hairs from my cheek
when I feel tail lights on my back
I step aside, and let them pass.
Curious saphires stare cautiously
from behind brush, and from the trees
I walk by affectionately-
they have no foe in me.
A street lamp buzzes on the corner-
I stop for a moment to watch with humor
the white, and gypsy moths dance-
Fluttering, frenzied with wonder.
I have no ache for company,
For whatever kind in memory
I have, is fed, and breathes, you see
In that night air next to me.
I make my way back home again,
Up the walk, and to the door-
I turn and bid the night "Good Night",
and thank him for how kind he's been.
Then past the thresh hold into light,
and warmth of hearth and home
I leave outside my friend, the Night,
how I began: alone..
i absolutely enjoyed this poem,
solace defined, descriptive verses
written with clarity, as the imagery
takes the reader to the vision, and
and those enchanting effects of the
night, passionate poetical expression,
thanks for sharing your talent, peace, mike
