The Clockworld of CanonA Chapter by Teh_Az
Canon is a clockwork world, a clockwork reality, driven by an infinite number of gears, coils, and springs. There is one vital force that sustains this contraptions, one vital source of motive force. That is power.
Imagine a clock with its twelve hours. That would be the reality of canon, and every number for an hour is one of the conceptions of power that moves the world. Imagine the hour when it strikes twelve. This is the most graven of hours, the heaviest of times. Here lies Fate, the face of power that moves the world through means no man could understand, only see or believe. This shall then give birth to the first hour, Authority. Authority is that face of power that sits upon the throne and commands the will of many. Here, it is Charisma that sustains authority, the second hour to be struck. The second hour is one's ability to move people with the mere strength of one's character and will. Men and women are instantly drawn, like moths to a flame, to a spirit or personality which rises above the rest. This is not often so though, for charisma may be just as damaging as it is uplifting to those whose minds do not share the thinking of others. Here it is necessary to exert force. Force is raw power, power in its most blunt form, the third strike of the hour. It is force which is needed to move the unwilling, to shake the adamant, and to crush the strong. When it fails, Expertise would prove to step up to the task. The fourth strike of the hour is that which relies on skill, guile, and proper technique to move the world. Here, we would have a man or woman who makes wonders out of bare basics to achieve the unimaginable, or yet be one who is sure of self in matters fine and intelligent. It is thus, expertise that sustains the next hour--Persuasion. The fifth hour moves the world through strength of will, will which finds the weka and makes it strong, or will that hunts the weak and use it so. Persuasion moves the world through mere suggestion, and nothing much else after that. The sixth hour is that which strikes to impress the unthinking. Fame is a power that moves the world, more powerful than the hour before when it seeks to move those whose minds are weak and wanting. Fame is such an enviable thing, but wary those who grasp it in their hands only to find that it is no longer they who are masters of fame, but fame who is master of them. The seventh hour is the b*****d child of Fame, Ascribed Power. It is the power of suggestion taken from the weakness of many to associate one strength with the other merely because they share certain similarities. This would be a power that rules the world through it self-imposed delusions. The eight strike of the hour is ideology. Ideology is stronger than Ascribed Power, a power that lies in the beliefs and faith of men and women. Ideology is thus a power that moves the world through the use of a powerful idea, held by many, yet possessed by no one. The ninth hour is the hour of knowledge. It is the power that moves the world through the existence of facts and those who know they exist. It is in a way a power of gain, but on the other side of the coin, opposite that of the tenth hour, wealth. Wealth is the power that moves the world through sheer gain, be it resources or physical blessings. Wealth, is in some way, what you are born with or that which you have earned. It is this that you have in your hands at this moment which drives the world on with its mere existence and ownership. The eleventh hour is domination. Domination is the power of the world to weaken, demean, dehumanize, and break that which is man or woman. Domination is the power of the world to move people according to a set of wishes set by someone else. This is the context of Canon itself, for Canon is clockwork, every spring and coil set in place. It is in such a large scale of viewing Canon, that Fate would be the stronger form of domination, the father of Authority. © 2010 Teh_Az |
