Prologue: Make It Glow Draft 1

Prologue: Make It Glow Draft 1

My friend talked me into turning my game into a visual novel, and I accepted thinking it'd be an easy shift in medium. As it turns out, I was terribly wrong. The target demographic of the medium cannot be sold my kind of work easily and because of this, it has pushed me into second thoughts. Had it not been for the gameplay aspect of the project, I would have quit, especially since the only reason why I do anything is for propaganda and VNs are not effective vehicles for it. So here is my first draft fresh from the oven. I couldn't find a script format for VNs, and since my training is meant for radio, please try to understand the technical jargon here.

Thank you!

Scenario Prologue: Make it Glow

Start Scenario

FADE IN [White text on black, centered: "Their homes burned."] SUSTAIN 2 SECONDS THEN FADE IN SOUND EFFECTS: Raging Fire SUSTAIN 2 Seconds THEN DISSOLVE IMAGE FOR .5 SECONDS.

FADE IN [Burning Squatter's Area, at night, the blaze is colossal] WITH BACKGROUND NOISE: People wailing, babies shrieking, and everyone praying to the Watchmaker, begging him to save their homes AND SUSTAIN.

AT CLICK DISSOLVE IMAGE.

AT CLICK FADE IN [White text on black, centered, stanza form: "High above the flames, at the peak of a hill, a young man watched."]

AT CLICK DISSOLVE IMAGE.

AT CLICK FADE IN [Rodrigo, angled perspective, overlooking the fire, emphasize the eyes] AND DISTANCE THE VOLUME OF BACKGROUND NOISE.

AT CLICK NARRATOR: His eyes are intent, glinting against the eerie, yellow light that brighten his features.

AT CLICK NARRATOR: His form is lowered, inched close towards the edge of the hill's summit--that his gaze may hold the blaze in its fullness.

AT CLICK NARRATOR: His stillness taunts the unstable dance of the fire.

AT CLICK CROSSFADE [Yano, over the shoulder perspective, stepping closer towards him from behind, his eyes weary and sad, his shoulders slumped, and his gunbelt loosened.] WITH FADE IN SOUND EFFECTS: Three crunching steps on dry grass and dirt.

AT CLICK YANO: What are you doing?

AT CLICK RODRIGO: What else? I'm watching the fire burn.

AT CLICK YANO: Well then stop it, we need to go. The Ayuntemiento sent us another order in order so while we are on loan to them we might as well move on.

AT CLICK RODRIGO: Tsk, they all look like rats from up here, scurrying scurrying scurrying. It doesn't help that the river was dammed two weeks ago and what water they [italics:could] get have only buckets to be carried back in.

AT CLICK YANO: Stand up and turn around, Rodrigo, we don't have all night.

AT CLICK RODRIGO: I do.

AT CLICK YANO: Sigh.

AT CLICK CROSSFADE [Yano standing beside Rodrigo, angled shot from below, emphasize difference in facial expression between them. Yano does not like what he sees, Rodrigo does.] WITH SOUND EFFECTS: Three crunching steps on dried grass and dirt.

AT CLICK YANO: Do you really like the fire?

AT CLICK RODRIGO: Yes.

AT CLICK YANO: Why?

AT CLICK CROSS FADE [White text on black: "Because they deserve it."] AND CUT ALL SOUND.

End Prologue.
