The False Friend

The False Friend

A Poem by T. Edana Talbott

The false friend draws you into their flock to add to their numbers.
They want your assistance in achieving that shallow title, “popular”.

The false friend smiles in secret as you cry and blunder.
They silently hope that you only rise to once again falter.
The false friend grows angry and envious each time you smile.
They wonder why you’re so happy, as their soul grows darker.
The false friend never asks how you are because they care.
They only ask in hopes that your life is much harder.
The false friend calls you up for countless favors.
They will never offer a hand to help or a comforting shoulder.
The false friend is quick to point out and whisper of your sins.
They will never mention and thank you for the goodness you harbor.
The false friend is the worst kind you can invite in.
They lurk in the shadows as you begin to wonder,
What friendship really is.

If the date attached to your author's note is anything to go by, then I'd say, I'm amaze that something so, last year (excuse my french) can seem so fresh; evergreen, even. I think this is one everyone can relate to, cause even those who unfortunately, fall in to the stereotype of 'false friends' often have false friends who look and act just as your poem relates.

It's a great poem. Love your style --the simplicity is refreshing. And I hope to see this years dated poem soon. Good one, Edana. Good one.

This was a very good read, using simplicity and straightforwardness as a strength.
Those false friends almost come to serve as the grey area in our lives, where we're forced to pick a side afterwards; where we can take the crap they've given us and either become them, or be better in spite of them.
Again, a fine read. :) I enjoyed this.
