The AmazonA Poem by TeaganMalisA poem about, well, the Amazon.Branches thick like logs, Leaves as green as emeralds, The whole sight leaves me reeling, Like I'm in a dreamworld. The emergents stretch, Up to the sky, Away with them, The parrots fly. Colorful wings, Spread so wide, Beauty like this, You cannot buy. Trees only held up By buttress roots, From their limbs, Hang juicy fruit. The world so green, It makes my eyes hurt; Green are the leaves, Brown is the dirt. The river is shallow, The water is clear, I'm all alone now; No one is near. Passing vines Grasp at my craft, Holding on tight, They're pulling me back. My oar hits the surface Of the water so calm, Breaking the stillness, That surrounds us all. Sunlight filters in, Through the cracks in the leaves, The jungle lights up, And the warmth greets me. Smells invade my senses, Spinning me around, Is that pine? Maple? Or even possibly almond? This beautiful sight, It makes me realize I usually look at the world, Through half-lidded eyes. I've been so blind, I thought beauty to be bought, But now that I'm here, I know it's this that I sought. This is a magical place, For the people have gone, It rests in silence; Because this is the beauty of the Amazon. © 2013 TeaganMalisFeatured Review
