My Shoes

My Shoes

A Poem by Tracie D'Angelo

Come to me my dearest child
And let me gaze into your eyes
My how they shine this brilliant light
Of hope
Of innocence
Of love
My eyes must have shone like that once
How could any mother not notice?
I was so scared when you came into my life
I didn't want to put you through all the pain I've lived through
The obligation
The guilt
But you were born, baby girl, with your own shoes
To walk your own path
And you will
And you'll never tread my path
I will never let you
walk in my shoes

Pros: Though I am no mother and have no desire to be one, I feel this motherly bond you have with your daughter through this poem. I can understand where your coming from saying you want her to make her own path and not follow in your footsteps. And I think every parent wants that to an extent. I also like your layout of this. It gives the poem an eye-catching beauty.

Cons: Nothing.

Overall: I like this and think every parent should read it. Very good.
