Only WaitingA Poem by Tracie D'AngeloWritten 5 December 1990I started out young with no idea in my head Just a vacant hole, only waiting I loved to dance in slippers of black As the music moved my feet Books were my tools to keep the tears back A child of a haunting past So deep inside of herself Only books and music were friends Nobody saw her pretty face between the pages Nobody saw her hopeful eyes behind the notes They only saw the vacant hole And a shadow of the person she could be No one smiled Few cared Until the hole filled Through painful days she aimlessly scratched Within a tiny book Over the years the book became larger And the eyes that first saw They smiled Many more Many still Only waiting © 2011 Tracie D'Angelo |
