Chapter 24: Cubs

Melina woke up feeling the warmth of Sirius cuddling her.A soft smile came to her face as she slowly and gently remove her head from under his.She got up and shook the grass off her,stretching her body full length.She felt the breeze ruffled up her fur a bit.She giggled.She liked the feeling.

Melina walked away from their sleeping spot.They would have to travel soon as the sun was rising up from the east. Melina made her way down a slope to find the beautifully waterfall her and Sirius were playing at yesterday.She took a drink and laid there,contemplating her worries.

Sirius awoke to find a golden and white she-wolf gone.Her scent was still lingering in the air around him so she must be near.He got up,stretching his body and shaking his thick fur.Sirius went down a slope to find Melina taking a dip at that waterfall,her fur drenched and her eyes relaxing.Without her knowing he crept behind her on top a rock,staring down at her,soaking her fur.

''Good morning!''He startles her with his deep voice. Melina glared at him,playfully,but said nothing as she got out the water,shaking her coat.''Hey!Watch where you throw that stuff!''

''Maybe if you weren't being such a peeping tom-''

''Peeping tom?''Sirius interrupted her.''Since when?''

''Oh,so you weren't just staring at me,soaking in that water?''Melina smirked.

''First of all i wasn't staring at you,and second i'm not a peeping tom.''

''And what do you prefer?'' 

''A gentlemen.''Melina laughed at the comment.Sirius stared blankly at her.''What's so funny?''

''A gentlemen?Really Sirius?''Sirius rolled his apple green eyes before turning away.

''I'm going to go get us something to eat!''He called to her over his shoulder. Melina was still laughing.She fallen on her back,laughing hard,trying to catch her breath.After a few minutes she stopped laughing and stared back into the sparkly,blue water.

She didn't know what to say to her reflection.A frown appeared on her features as she stared blankly at her reflection.''What are you to me?''She yelled at herself.''Why don't i feel any connection with you?!''She threw her paw in the water,making her reflection disappear for a second as it came back slowly.She sighed.''You're not going anywhere i guess...''

''Who are you talking to?''Melina turned her head to see a baby bear,cub staring at her confusingly.''My mom told me animals who talk to themselves are crazy.''

Melina shook her head quickly.''I'm not crazy.''

''Then what are you?''The little bear asked.

Confused. Melina sighed.''Nothing sweetheart.I was just...irritated.''The little bear cub sat next to her,putting his paws in the water.

''My mom told me when i get older she's going to teach me to catch fish!''He put his muzzle close to the water.''Do you see all the pretty fish?''

Melina nodded.''They are pretty.''She then thought about the cub.''Aren't you suppose to be home,little guy?''

''My mom said i can come out and play!''

''But there's no one around here for you to play with.I don't think your mother would approve of you leaving your den in search for friends?''

''Nonsense! I have you to play with!''The little cub happily pounced around the she-wolf.''Can we play?''

''Will your mother agree?''Melina asked,wagging her tail.Maybe a little game of tag or hide and seek won't hurt! The little cub nodded.''My mom won't care!''

''Alright,little guy.''Melina jabbed him in the paw softly.''Your it!''She called running away from him.

Sirius sinks his teeth inside the hare's throat,killing it.Sirius picked it up and traveled back to the waterfall where Melina was surly waiting for him.They had to move quickly while the sun is up,by tonight he was determine they were going to make it to Titanion's woods. 

The blood was dripping from the hare that was still in his mouth.It was nice and juicy for both wolves to eat so he only caught one.

A long curdling yowl was heard.

Sirius knew this was Melina as he dropped the food he was carrying running all the way back to the waterfall where he left Melina earlier.

The sight he saw scared the living lights out him.A overgrown female grizzly bear cornered Melina,holding her cub on her back,roaring at the young she-wolf.Sirius gulped.He knew what he had to do.He didn't think twice as he ran up behind the female and raked his claws in her fur,making her scream in agony.

''Run!''He told Melina.

Melina refused to run.She was to scared to move.I knew i should had never played with that cub! I'm in so much trouble! What about Sirius?

The female bear was advancing on the black and silver wolf now.She cornered him to the ledge of the water and on the land.Sirius looked down at the water before setting his eyes back on the female grizzly.

He jumped onto her stomach his claws unsheathed and landed behind her on all four paws.''Come and get me!''He shouted to the female grizzly,who started chasing him around the waterfall.

Sirius stopped between some broken trees where the female grizzly took a swipe at him on his face.Sirius yowled at the pain.The grizzly bear roared again,attempting to hit Sirius again,he dodged this time and jumped onto a branch of the broken tree and onto the grizzly's face with claws digging into her fur.He ran all the way back to the waterfall.The female grizzly followed him,roaring.

She just don't give up,does she?Sirius growled.He jumped back as the female came forward to him.Sirius jumped again,clawing at the grizzly's face again,leaving a mark on her cheek.She raised her paw and strikes him.

Sirius falls to the ground,breathing heavily.What else do i got to lose?He panted.His eyes landed on Melina,who had her ears pinned down as if calling his name softly to get back up.His eyes were about to roll back in his head as he heard Adira and Eirian bark 'Get up!'

Sirius breathed and got up as he saw the female grizzly walking away from him.I'm not finished with you yet! He climbed up a tree,something he learned to do from Carro and with the right angles he jumped,his claws and fangs showing,landing on top the female grizzly.He clawed her right eye and bite down on her paw.He jumped off her,calling to Melina, fleeing the scene from an angry female grizzly.
