Disappoinment

Disappoinment

A Story by David

    Disappointment

Such an awful thing. It can be seen on the faces of the very young children. It shows when the adult lets them down. A promise given in haste and not thought of again, at least by the adult. Certainly not forgotten by the little one. Their world not comprised of complications. Just simple trust, the expectation of what was said, to come true.

There is also the disappointment shown by the very same young one when they let down that adult . You can see it in their eyes, the bad grade, striking out in front of his parents at the baseball game. Of the lie told and knew they were in the wrong.

This same effect shows in the cloudy eyes of the elderly. Sitting , lonely, few visitors come by . Relatives call and give excuse why they can’t stop and visit, the kids game, sick dog, all so flimsy and hurtful. They sit and wait for their time to come and pray for the comfort of no more disappointment. No more Thanksgivings and Christmas’ all dressed and waiting at the nursing home only to receive that four o’clock phone call when they were ready at two. Their minds recalling other times, a tear drops to their sweater.

There is the disappointment of the teenager finding his first loves wayward ways. Of the football player losing the big game and devastated by the look of the coach. The cheerleader, suddenly cast aside in favor of the new girl in school. This is simply devastating and long lasting.

There comes the disappointment of the lovers , forgetting a wedding day, anniversary, birthday or special moment. The tender moment when comes the question, Honey do you remember when? Whatever the question is and is answered by a blank stare and silence.

There is the disappointment of the true and sincere friend . Put off to simply protect them from you and your stored and pent up disappointment with life itself. Of the empty delusion only visible to you. Each day beating you down , you beating back but eventually in that death spiral and not wishing to take that friend with you, unable to compete with life , renewal and hope. The disappointment of letting that friend down is just so overwhelming. The power of this breaks upon your heart, tears at the balance of that soul. Never let that disappointment come to them. It is not you that matters but best to push them away, to keep them from you. That disappointment!
