Korean Jack

Korean Jack

A Story by David

Buds was a country bar. It was the kind of place that you went in and watched your a*s. I personally never had a problem. Not sure why but I think it has something to do with the fact people were unable to read me. I am not a big man but am fairly large.  By this I mean big chest, arms and a look that seems to say don’t mess with me. I at times would go to bars not designed for me . I mean black bars . In bad neighborhoods. I would walk in and sit down. They would think  this guy is nuts or a real bad a*s. Either way it kept me in good health. I actually loved these romps. It does not say much for my sensibility or reason but I was never disturbed or molested in any manner.

I want to make it clear I am not a fighter, never have been. I would rather talk about it .The only time I ever hit a person, I feared I blinded him for life. This was at 16 years old and he came to where we were at a friends  home. He was unwelcome and when greeted at the door was denied entry. Of course by me. He managed to curse me out for over ten minutes before I hit him. I actually sent him close to 20 feet in the air before landing. I am not proud of this and never again did this. It took him many hours to regain his sight. I am so very happy about this. It just shows what happens in this hard world. It also says words have meaning. You cannot abuse the world and it’s inhabitents without repercussions.

Korean Jack was a mean drunk and a real good pool player. Jack was an electrician. He would routinely do 400 pushups daily. This guy had massive guns. He was a Buds regular. I loved playing pool so I guess so was I. Jack took a shine to me. He certainly did not fear me for he was easily capable of killing me. For some reason he respected me. We played incredible amounts of pool. He was far better than me but I kind of held my own and was given hints and advice here and there. I was better than most but not Jack.

Jack was fine for a given time and all of a sudden he flew over the edge. The controls were off. The stops pulled. Usually I was gone long before this. I had no desire to be around for this. He pissed off everyone and made trouble for all around.

There was the night he had an argument with someone less his equal . He took a pool cue to the body of this person and hurt him fairly badly. Well to say things were forgotten would be a lie and deceipt . Jack was shut off and ordered home . On his walk there the person of his previous anger had managed to go home and get his 22. He waited for Jack to leave and walk home. It was  not long and soon shots fired. Several bullets to the chest. Jack being so strong managed to survive this assault. I am not sure of the outcome of either individual. I saw jack at the lumber yard months later. I am not sure if he corrected his wayward ways or if his attempted killer went to jail. It is simply a lesson learned.
