Green Lady

Green Lady

A Poem by David

Down a twisting dirt road, in Harwington hides

Deep and dark place, where Green Lady resides

Trees so dense and tall, walls of brick tumbling down

Iron gate unhinged ready to fall, this place no longer part of this town

Many years have now passed, no visitors , no care, serious berth

Given  this ancient place , no men nor women even animals disturb this earth

Once manicured grass, plants by the stones, on some days flags flown

Now bereft, overgrown and forlorn, cold unforgiving winds have blown

Across the weeds coating this plot, Not a new member since the year 3 aught

Eighteen year old girls here you’ll not find, unless that particular one

Has lain by your side, you vermin, you devil for you she will come

Just venture down this path, we soon all shall see, that old worn out rope

Hanging just from that tree, Your future awaits

Just come closer and see, Your future ,No future, now no more hope

You took this young girl and turned dreams to nightmares

It is you she beckons and calls , Come to my tree and you’ll soon not care

For because of you, my young life, ended so soon,

I am trapped here, by this bright yellow moon.

I took my own life for your dasterdly deeds , My well being you would not heed

Any who enter, this place and can’t see, This is my  home , where I hang from that tree

This is the home of Green Lady Cemetery

We used to bring our young girlfriends here and tell tall tales, usually resulting in a great hug
