Plus Sized Half Pints

Plus Sized Half Pints

A Story by David

A funny thing happened on my way to this site. It was around thirty years ago that I started what I thought was going to be a really good novel. The basis of that book was to be the government poisoning the food supply . I put that book away about three weeks after I started it and did not look back until a couple months ago when I was rummaging around one of the files in the cabinet. What appeared was the hundred and twenty or so pages. Dog eared , stained by age and all hand written. I amused myself and reread this ancient missive.

It occurred to me that all one need to do is wait and everything will eventually come to fruition. Thinking back to that time , there were fruit stands by every small farm or even folks with large gardens  would set up stands on the side of the road to make a little extra cash and rid themselves of excess vegetables. When you bit into a tomato then, it was the most tasty and wonderful fruit . The same with watermelon and butter and sugar corn on the cob. There was no year around fruit or vegetables then. You had summer fruits and vegetables and you looked forward to the day the peach would be ripe enough to eat . September and October brought apple season and how wonderful they were.

Today we have apples year round, tomatoes and all types of seasonal foods in full supply all the time. I have to admit they taste like cardboard. The only time these things taste good is when the market buys locally grown . It is not just fruits and vegetables .

I grew up having beef four or five times a week. Back then beef, chicken , pork and the like were ever so tasty. We had a chicken farm at the end of the street and if we had chicken for dinner it was fresh that day. The same with turkeys and eggs. Our milk was delivered in glass bottles and we had to remove  the paper cap and separate the cream from the top. We were active all the time and obesity was a word in the dictionary.

In today’s world we have instant gratification. We have massive farms producing immense amounts of food. Everything we eat today is loaded with sugar or fructose, one worse than the other. Beef and fowl are tasteless and loaded with hormones. Is this the reason that twelve year old girls appear to twenty? You can bet on it. Is this the reason we see so many rotund beefaloafs, bellies hang well over the belt they managed to clasp at the very last hole? You can bet it has a great deal to do with it. I am routinely amazed at the 250 pound woman waddling up to the counter at Dunkin Donuts. Invariably they order several thousand calories worth of donuts or sandwiches and then comes my favorite part. “ I’ll have a large diet coke with that”. Have you seen the size of these coffees people are consuming? Don’t get me wrong here. I am not siding with that idiot Bloomberg but for Gods sake. Look at yourself!!! Our young children are obese little plus sized pints! They sit around with massive bags of Doritos or some such other processed food that is loaded with chemicals. They play computer games for hours on end while sucking down soda and sports drinks loaded with calories and sugar. Between the lack of exercise and the shoveling of thousands of calories into their faces they don’t stand a chance at being a normal sized person.

If you take a look around the world, you do not see oversized Chinese people. The Italians eat like horses but are not oversized. Their food source is not being polluted by hormones, sugars and fat. I see so many people going to the gym to try to lose weight. They  do not stand a chance if they keep eating these poisoned foods.

Thirty years ago I had a different type of poison in mind but this is working equally as well. We are now a nation of obese fat bodies with hundreds of thousands of diabetics or borderline diabetics.

I don’t have the answers but I can say I wrote the book on this!
