Story of a Shadow

Story of a Shadow

A Poem by Taylor Williams

I feel these ashes clog my lungs
And the smoke obscure my vision
Asphyxiated my vision fades to black
I wonder if i could ever go back
Back to the days when my heart smiled
Back when i had dreams and this heart was wild
I miss who i was when i was younger
Wouldn't ever back down or ever falter
My friends and i had such iron wills
To take every dream we had and make them real
I had a vision one day looking into a river
My reflection spoke to me saying death is ever nearer
So follow your heart with everything that you have
And live every day like it could be your last
Now every time that i look into a mirror
I notice my reflection has never been clearer
The persons whose aging face that i see
Is just a shadow of who i used to be
Long ago i should've heeded my reflection
But its not too late
To start in a new direction
