I'm Not the Crazy One

I'm Not the Crazy One

A Poem by Kiara

I shift uncomfortably and nervously in my seat.
I know what will happen when I get home.
They're taking me to a doctor,
Because apparently I'm the crazy one.
I'm sorry,
But I'm not the one who told her daughter
That no one cared.
I'm not the one who made her daughter
Feel like she was worthless.
I didn't take away everything.
I didn't shout into her face.
I didn't make her cry herself to sleep
And wish she was dead.
I didn't tear her life apart.
Maybe there isn't anything wrong with me.
Maybe it was you all along.

I love the anger in this poem and the helplessness. I love how you capture that moment of feeling judged and ridiculed, and the frantic pace of the poem really moved me. It showed how harsh the world can be when they don't believe the words of a child and what is happening to them. Your images are brutally honest. Thank you for sharing this!
