Chapter One

Chapter One

A Chapter by Kiara

“Ugh, I hate this romantic crap.”  Brianna grumbled, slamming yet another book down.  She stood and stormed to the window, not really looking out.  She’d already had enough of this romance on her hands, with her best friend constantly ditching her for her (attractive) new boyfriend.  It wasn’t Madeline’s fault though.  Everyone was hooking up… Well everyone except Brianna, that is.  Maybe no one liked girls with long, untamable black hair and eyes that changed from green to gray.  Maybe they all liked the Madelines, the blondes with curvy figures and beautiful, flawless, golden skin.  No one wanted a girl that could be mistaken for a vampire, right?  “Nope, way too creepy.”

“What’s too creepy?”  Brianna spun around to find Madeline, perfect as always, holding one of the books she had tossed on the ground.

“Nothing,” Brianna replied nervously.  “Just talking to myself.”  Madeline looked up, that perfect shiny hair framing those perfect eyes outlined in perfect makeup.  Her perfect pink lips smiled, showing perfectly straight and perfectly white teeth.

“You shouldn’t do that, ya know,” Madeline smiled again.  “People will think you’re crazy.  I wouldn’t want a crazy BFF.”  She laughed, tossing her hair back.  “Oh, Dan’s waiting outside in the car.  I dropped by to tell you I couldn’t hang out tomorrow.  Dan offered to take me to the movies.  I’d say you could come too, but I figured you would want to work on your music.  I know it means a lot to you.”

“Wait, so where are you going now?  You guys could stay awhile…”

“We can’t, he’s taking me out to dinner and then he said we could go shopping.  Maybe we can pick you up on our way to the mall?”

“Um Mattie, my house isn’t on the way to the mall.  You know I don’t like shopping anyway.”  Okay, that was a complete lie.  Brianna loved shopping, just not for the same stuff as Madeline.  Bright pink mini skirts and revealing tank tops didn’t really captivate her.

“Well I really gotta get going, girl.  Dan’s waiting.  I’ll text you, promise.”  With that, Madeline danced out of the room, shaking her perfect butt.

“Okay, now that one was a bit much.” She warned herself.  At least she knew why Dan liked her best friend.  She was gorgeous, maybe even the prettiest girl in school.  Mattie wasn’t exactly nice, but she did try.  Brianna had also been trying, trying to fit in at the lunch table packed with Mattie’s cheerleader friends.  She had been trying to put up with Mattie never being there.  Brianna always came to her rescue if someone called her names or hurt her feelings.  She pretended to be happy for her when Dan asked her out.  “She knew I liked him….”
