Oblivious

Oblivious

A Poem by Tavar
"

A friend wanted me to write a poem about being on the opposite side of an unrequited love situation. I decided to indulge them.

"

This day I realized I had more than a friend

A lover forever within the shadows

I never noticed till it was too late

The end has come before the start took place

You were always there for me

So cheerful and wonderful but oblivious I was

You were a friend and nothing more

I never once stopped to think

Till that day you passed away

The day I read your letter to me

Given in your will a final freedom

I cried that day more than I’ve ever done before

I wish I’d known, I loved you more

Love the last two lines, really got the feeling of subtle pain and regret across...but the lines mentioning she was the sister he adored was a little confusing. Not sure if it represents he regarded her only as a friend/sister.

I altered the line to something I feel is more fitting. How does it flow now in your eyes?
