Sirenity pulled her tattered coat tighter around her body as a rather frigid gust of wind blew through the quaint litle village she lived in. Leaves that had been changed from green to the colors of the sunset swirled about her feet. Her waist legnth black hair tangled in the wind adding a slight fierceness to her already intimidating looks. the cold wind stung Sirenity's gray eyes forcng her to blink many times. the village that surrounded her was empty. All of the merchants had retreated to thei rhomes or to the tavern for the night to escape the brutal cold.
Sirenity looked to the sky and watched the moon rise in salute toher final birthday. The silvery rays danced towards the forrest beckoning her to follow. Sirenity followed the rays to the edge where she stopped. No matter how many times she had run through those enigmatic trees, they still terrified her at night. Even more so tonight, for once she entered she would not leave again.
Before she stepped past the barrier, Sirenity looked to the moon and as if on cue, a path sparkled before her. As she too her first step her nerves seemed to all fire at once, she felt the invisibe magic part as she made her final decision. never again would Sirenity look back on this world as a mortal human. Will the merchant family that adopted her weep when the find her farewell note?
Sirenity turned to look one last time at the small village under the moon and then the doors closed. Two big wooden door with intricate designs carved into the wood that told stories of what lie behind them, sealed Sirenity's old life away.
"Hello Sirenity, happy birthday," Princess Madilene said smoothly. Sirenity turn around and she saw the majestic woman sitting tall upon her throne. Her skin was olive toned and her face smooth. her eyes gleamed a festive yellow, she had an upward facing cresent tattooed to her forehead and swirls on her shoulders t represent the winds that brought forth Autumn. Her hair was auburn and hung down to her knees, and atop her head were antleers that were fierce but feminine. She wore a dress of some enchanted black fabric that seemed to have a life of its own. Princess Madilene looked at Sirenitywith empty eyes.
"I am glad to see that you decided to not follow in your mothers footsteps," she said icily, 'I don't know what the court would do if we lost yet another siren."
Sirenity bowed, "Of course my lady. I apologize upon melissa's behalf and will happily make amend for her mistakes."
To Sirenity's suprise the princess laughed, "'Make amends for her mistakes'? She has been forgiven for everything except the birth of you. Had she not been misguided by that vile human, you would not be here! Had she accepted her duties as Autumn siren my realm would not be in eternal debt to the Summer and Winter realms who have been working together since that day to create a simple resemblance of my Autumn!"
Sirenity flinched at the woman's anger but said nothing.
"Leaves the color of the sunset?!" the princess raged on, "The sunset of too dull for perfect Autumn leaves! Cold gusts of wind?! Autumn is supposed to have graceful breezes that send shivers down your spine! Autumn is practically destroyed and it is all thanks to your mother giving birth to you."
"So tell me dear Sirenity, how you plan to amend your mothers mistake without killing yourself."
Sirenity looked back at the princess, "Forgive me but I thought that Fae were immortal?"
'That is true,' she replied, "but youhave not eatn the fruit of Autumn, so you are still mortal."
Sirenity bowed again, "In order to make amends I pledge to bring back your Autumn, the prefect Autumn that you knew before my birth."
Princess Madilene looked at Sirenity carefully. her eyes showed she was contemplating Sirenity's answer. "Accepted," was all she said then held out the golden fruit to Sirenity.
"Eat this and eat it all once you have been taken to your chambers. You were lucky to be born in midfall, for youhave three seasons to learn your trade. By next Autumn I expect my season to be restored."
"Sirenity gently too the fruit from her, "Yes my lady, "was all she said before a goblin came to lead her to her new home.
