Death ascends.

Death ascends.

A Poem by Tariq

Darkness hugs the branches
A snake spewing its endless gush of poison
Over the asphalt.
A low, sleepy voice announces the arrival of death
I shudder and shrug.
My body falls into timelessness
It’s protecting itself from the abrupt attack
Death approaches
The voice repeats the call
Death approaches
The voice dies with in the cavern of its shrine.
The branches sway, welcoming the master.
The master glides across the leaves, breathing out icy fumes.
The snake drops its head to the ground
The spewing is done
Death stares from behind the bars of my window
He hovers under the light, like cold air in mid spring.
I surrender.

this is a terrific prose poem. The imagery is clear and powerful. Everything moves together in this write. Well done.

btw.... don't ever surrender. Stare back and smile at the old bugger.
