I want to escape 2

A Story by Tariq
"

the rat knows something that will change his life

"

The five months passed so slowly. I did nothing but sit at one corner of the room, thinking of how unlucky I am. The first thirty days I thought of how it’d be nice to die in this place. The relief that death would bring me at that time was unsurpassable, it was the only thing I wished for.

Everyday I walked to that small, rectangular window and looked through it at the street, wishing for something special to happen, but the five months ended and nothing special happened.

Dad eventually brought me out of my room and I was free once again. But his treatment changed drastically. He never smiled at me and he didn’t talk to me, unless he wanted me to do him something. He’d yell at me in a harsh voice and I’d come to him, helpless and forsaken.

As for mother, she did not care about any of us. She had her own world. She spent her day talking to other neighboring rats about food recepies. Actually, she didn’t do any of these recepies, and if she did, it’d have been obvious on me.

For some time, I lost hope that I’d leave our country. I started planning for a boring future in this place. I accepted an ordinary life that had no meaning or taste.

But that didn’t actually last long. All over the country news of the arrival of a magician king spread. The magician king has been known for years all over the country. From time to time, rats would speak of his extraordinary achievements. Some say that he built an enormous castle in just two days, others say that he killed five hundred rats with one sneeze.

When I was younger, I believed all of these stories but as I grew up I realized that life wasn’t that interesting and there’s no such thing as magic or castles; Everything for me was boring, dreary and mundane.

The day the magician king arrived to our country, rats from all over the place dashed in the streets holding banners with his name and pictures on it. They yelped and sang of his achievements and powers.

As you might have expected, Dad had no interest in joining the partying. He preferred to stay in a room with a book or a piece of cheese rather than mingle up with other rats. Sometimes I felt that he hated being a rat himself.

A day or so passed over the magician’s king stay in our country. He lodged in the castle of Baragool at the northern coast.

There was this rat named Odeen. He asked me to join him to the castle so that we can get a glimpse of the magician king, but I didn’t care to have a glimpse of an imposter. You know, at that time I believed that the magician king was a fake, stupid rat who simply wanted to attract as much attention as he could.

But all my ideas concerning the magician king changed on that cold night in December. I was walking down the street, going back home from the bakery, when I heard a rat screaming from the church tower. “ The magician king shall take one rat with him.” He screamed the sentence four times.

I stopped in my place unable to believe what I was hearing. Finally, hope has returned. I thought that may be I can be that one, special rat whom the magician king takes out of this country. Oh, hope feels so good, extremely good.

The story is building and the plot along with the cheese thickens. Still not sure if we are talking rats or people in places.

Is the Magician King a rat, human, or some other animal?

I like the main character's thought: "As you might have expected, Dad had no interest in joining the partying. He preferred to stay in a room with a book or a piece of cheese rather than mingle up with other rats. Sometimes I felt that he hated being a rat himself."

This paragraph really adds depth to your story as it stand so far.

Good Job, I'll have to buy some Gouda cheese for the party.... lol
