The Girl Who Wrote

The Girl Who Wrote

A Poem by Tanisha
"

A rather medium length poem about a girl who wrote poems.

"

There once was girl who like poetry

She liked to read al kinds

From Edgar Allan Poe to Robert Frost

She wished she could write to

She heard the poetry came from your heart

From what you feel inside

And who you are thinking of

When she was five she took some colored paper

And wrote about her mother

How her hair was curly

And how her eyes were green

She wrote about he dad

And how we was her Superman

She showed to her parents

And they shared it with their friends

When she was ten she took notebook paper

And wrote about her friends

How they took her toys at recess

And never gave them back

How they invited her to sleepovers
And locked her in the closet

She showed her parents

And they said whatever

When she was fifth-teen took ripped paper

And wrote about a boy
Who liked to race and cuss
And who tasted like Gatorade and tobacco

She wrote about how he left one day
Without goodbye or a reason why

She tucked it away in her dresser

And her parents never saw it

When she was eight-teen she took an envelope

And wrote on the back of it

About how she was sad

Because mom and dad fought a lot
Her friends left her

And the boy still never came back

And the whole town got to read it
Because it was published in the paper

In her obituary.

Excuse the lack of punctuation and the topic of which it was written about (suicide) there has been a lot of that in my high school. We have recently lost two freshmen due to it and it, along with my several failed attempts, inspired this piece.

I like this. It's very poignant and I can see that there was definitely an emotional connection from your point of view. But I'm no expert when it comes to poetry, so I can only review your piece from a consumer's point of view. Also, I reckon you could work this into a short story. The message would be as clear, and you could broaden your poignancy on an entirely different level (if you were that way inclined).

Very good.
