Fall Into Gray

Fall Into Gray

A Poem by Tania Leigh

My heart is made of ruby red glass and adorned by sapphire scars. I keep it safely locked in its crystal case upon a pedestal of cascading colours; it is the only brilliance within a vast gray sea of emotions…

Then along comes your love; a tiny steel hammer, forged of hurt and anger and swung by pride as I watch helplessly…

I am ruefully in awe of the irony in the beautiful tinkling sound that I

hear when the crystal case is conquered and tiny shards of ruby red glass

explode ...and fall into gray.

A nice piece, reminded me of beauty and the beast where the rose is in the glass case slowly loosing it's petals. A wonderful write!

That was so beautiful! I love the picture painted when reading this.

"...safely locked in its crystal case upon a pedestal of cascading colours..." One of my favorite lines! Great job!

I appreciate how your sea of emotions is gray. Neither black nor white, neither exceptionally bad nor incredibly good. Gray is mundane, the normal. And yet I see this floating heart wafting away. This beautiful thing, with its pretty scars, still struggling against the plain and the boring. The shattering of such a magnificent thing still produces joy in the explosion, even if the end result is the breaking.

I have contemplated this very much recently - is it better to open oneself to great hurt in order to experience overwhelming pleasure? I say the answer is yes - nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Your notes help to figure out what means what and I find that necessary just like the agenda for a map. Poetry it seems can mean so many things to different people. My guess is usually the wrong one.

Using one word to make a poem is quite a challenge. But you lived up to that challenge with yours I think.

I know I'll be giving you a good grade anyway.

This is really amazing.
The imagery is truly breathtaking - I could really see the sculptor working on the ruby, which was pretty unique material, and even hear the sounds the ruby makes while breaking.
Very creative and imaginative.
Keep up the good work! :)

You have managed to describe my last two relationships in this one piece sis. I could almost picture the delicate heart encased in crystal and muse over the many times I have felt just like that. You never cease to amaze me with your ability to merge beauty and agony without diminishing the power of either one.
