Abandon

Abandon

A Poem by Tania Leigh

Luminous light adorns the horizon as Dawn

lends her warmth to the storm-ravaged sea.

Tempestuous waves of the fore-night, now tame,

roll their way to the shore, then in silence recede.

I stand alone with bare feet in the sand and seek

comfort from the cold ocean water’s caress.

By turns, my troubles I cast to the surf and then

pray that this time they, too, will regress.

The salt of my skin meets the cool ocean spray;

they unite as warm tears stream down my face.

I walk away quickly, leaving behind sorrow and

my memories for the sea to erase.

Tania Leigh, this is an amazing poem. Your words comfort me and in fact speak what I could not find words to say two years ago as I stood on a beach in Jamaica, myself in sorrow over an impending loss. I will treasure this.

Great poem filled with emotion and imagery... using the vast sea to wash away those bitter memories and tears you've cried so you can begin another life in a beautiful ocean.

Phenomenal imagery! I love this piece, it's calming and slightly worrying at the same time.

You're Imagery is outstanding.
I could really feel the ocean on my skin and the emotions that were invoked by the main character are inspired!

"Tempestuous waves of the fore-night, now tame,
roll their way to the shore, then in silence recede.

I stand alone with bare feet in the sand and seek
comfort from the cold ocean water's caress."

The picture I take away here is the ebb and flow of the waters edge. I see a casting of one's troubles into the sea. They are carried away. Yet a wave rolls back to shore bringing the unknown with it. I see a figure walking away. The burdens that have been cast are gone. Some new mix has been delivered in it's stead. The figure continues to walk away with a fresh out look. The mix being deposited on the shore is no longer the figures concern.
