The Raven's Path

The Raven's Path

A Poem by Tania Leigh

As I close my weary eyes I see a raven in the dead oak tree

that marks the end of this fateful path -- and my life –

but I manage a laugh, for as its cold

black eyes watch over me in

 grotesque anticipation of

 my very last breath,  it

is I who will win in

 the end, you see;

it is I who chose

not the path on the left.

Death was right and Life was left.

This holds depth. The raven is such a symbol. It is a precursor of death. Yet here it sits awaiting your fait and the flesh on your bones. You give the feeling that it sits and awaits that which it is responsible for. Yet you show that you are in control by choosing death over life. Though the raven will dine on your flesh, you are in charge and not his victim. This is only my take on the piece. You may have intended to convey something entirely different but this is where it takes me. I feel this. It will go into my favorites. Thank you.

eerie, Tania, like the Raven was a bad omen. But you managed to whimsically jeer at it, and take the path that was right. :) ---mishy

I like this it has a since of empowerment as strange and twisted as that might sound but it is freeing and empowering in the face of death. Very well done.

Damn, that is so good. We all always make some mistakes by making the wrong choices, no matter what. As for the ravens (that goes the same with the crows); They are part of being between the land of the living and the land of the dead. They're also the death messengers as well...

Anyway, this is really great and I loved it. It pretty much reminded me of "The Crow" in some ways...

It speaks to me of suicide - very powerful. The way the poem is set up is great, it builds the tension. My favourite line is the last 'Death was right and Life was left' - a fantastic play on words.

Great job

It kinda reminded me of a combination of Poe and Robert Frost, which is weird because I could never imagine the two collaborating :) This was really good.
