Autumn's Woe

Autumn's Woe

A Poem by Tania Leigh
"

A description of what I can see from my window...

"

Frost

embraces my window,

and apprises me of

winter’s approach.

Outside

rebellious leaves

cling to a tree’s branches,

determined not to fall.

Remnants

of summer’s glorious flora

now shame the garden,

unattended and forgotten.

Rows

of flowers,once lush and proud;

now brown and brittle,

have fallen from grace.

Majestic

fountain, empty and cold,

is sheltered for winter

under unsightly guise.

November;

no pretty colors,

no gleaming snow

no Indian summer;

autumn’s woe.

I know how you feel. So glad spring is about to kick down that depressing door. Great piece.

I totaly agree! Autumn doess have issues, wonder why the creator programed it to be that way! Kinda like, i think God should have had snow fall a different shade of the rainbow each time, so it wouldn't be all so.so.. white! :)
Love this poem!
Great work as usual! :)

Wow. Autumn is my favorite season, but your descriptions are so strong here that I can understand the bitter sentiment with full force. Also, your style is excellent; I would break the last line from the last stanza to keep up with the pattern you start with, because it works very well.
Would you mind me suggesting that you not work with rhyme so much? While you have fairly original rhymes in your work, I tend to like your unrhymed pieces more. Or maybe you could experiment with other patterns of rhyme.

Very descriptive, and very beautiful. I hate whenever the autumn reaches its end. Thank you for the great read.

I love any thing about Autumn, hence my name. I really like the scene you set with this one and I don't just mean it being about autumn, because it can also take a turn into one's feelings. My suggestions? and they are only suggestions. I am horribly untrained and am not a technical poet. but, i would suggest changing the "now" in the fourth stanza to something else, you have it in the third stanza and you don't seem to be going with the repetitive. Oh, and maybe, hmmmmm... take away the "no" s and add something like "empty colors", drowning snow, no Indian summer, to Autumns' woe? Just my thoughts..your poem..do what you feel....always.

what is it about autumn that inspires so many writers?
'Rebellious leaves' caught me off guard and I loved it. I could totally picture a barren tree in winter and these few sparse leaves saying, 'f you! I'm not going any where!' I really enjoyied the poem!
