A Whisper in the Night

A Whisper in the Night

A Story by Serenity

The moonlight covered the lake with its luminious light, caressing it tenderly. A pebble fell from some high up cliff and into the water, creating ripples in its once sleek surface. The ripples made their way to the shore, lapping at it softly. And over the purple more you could see the shady trees bending to the breeze. Leaves cascading down in marvalous colors of reds and yellows, golds, coppers, and oranges so bright, but all color was null and void in the darkness of the night. The light of the full moon came down and brightened the shore line, the light reflecting off the surface. My eyes glistened like stars in the moonlight. Deep myseterous shining stars in the moonlight. My lips soft and only speaking to whisper but one name. Destroying the silence for only a mere moment. Then all was still again. The name floating endlessly through time, but only to be heard by one that night. The whisper so soft and delicate like that of a flower, and spoken with such love and tenderness. The name escaped my lips and my heart skipped a beat. The silence shattered only momentarily. Just one name uttered in the cold dead of the night, and a smile spread across my face. I looked out across the lake, to the other side and there standing so peacefully as if time was just flying right by. There he stood. Like a statue, thats when I heard it. My name floating across the water. My name uttered in but a whisper, yet could be heard from way over here. I smiled again for I knew who stood, who called my name and who would be standing there waiting for me, all the same.

Beautifully penned, I love how you express both feelings and truly descriptive imagery...and excellent short story.
