The dying of the light

The dying of the light

A Poem by TamsinDaya
"

This is a poem I wrote in memory of my Yiayia (grandmother) I lost her recently. We were very close and it's so hard right now . . . I wrote this for her eulogy

"
'Do not go gently into that goodnight
But rage against the dying of the light'.
Those words were in my heart
When you did us depart

You were full of light and life
No matter the difficulty or strife.
You could always make us smile
Even when we hadn't in a while.

You loved music and song
and to dance all night long.
You were good and kind
and always spoke your mind.

I miss you everyday.
I still can't believe that you've gone away.
Still, I know that in my heart
We will never truly part.

As the earthly clock gives its final chime
All I say to you is 'until next time.'

Author's Note

TamsinDaya
This poem was written for my Yiayia's (grandmother's) eulogy. I lost her recently and it's so, so hard right now. And, it's harder to watch my mom struggle with her own grief.

The first two lines of the poem are paraphrased versions of lines from Dylan Thomas' poem "Do not go gentle into that good night"
