Afraid

Afraid

A Poem by Tammy

A sun is a hot star

that might die,

or begin to lose height;

not unlike life.

I’m afraid!

Afraid to go to sleep.

  Afraid of what I might see.

    What my night time terrors may reveal.

Weeks of sleepless nights

haunted by my failures.

I don’t want to see

smoky ghosts of the unsaved

swirling around me begging,

knowing there is no hope;

that their tomorrows have ceased.

My dreams

tainted by flash backs

of burnt flesh mingling

with the sweet sweat of life.

Hearing screams fade

and the breath seep

from those lost to the flaming beast.

I’m afraid!

Afraid of what I might see,

will blind me.

Blind me of my purpose, life.

O!
Fear makes us think of things which sometimes are impossible but the fear can make them feel possible......wanting us to stop .....all that we're doing at once..

that is so sad.

Thank you for joining the contest.

You just described what my first book is about. Too many lost to the beast. Loved it

We must never become victimized by our fears but rather strengthened by our goals. You took me inside a nightmare, but I'm happy to report we both remain focused on life. Sharon
