Afraid

Afraid

A Story by Tammy
"

I was thinking about a fireman...

"

A sun is a hot star that might die, or begin to lose height. Not unlike life.

I’m afraid!

Afraid to go to sleep. Afraid of what I might see. What my night time terrors may reveal.
Weeks of sleepless nights haunted by my failures. I don’t want to see smoky ghosts of the unsaved swirling around my turnouts begging, know there is no hope; that their tomorrows have ceased.

My dreams tainted by flash backs of burnt flesh mingling with the sweet sweat of life. Hearing screams fade and the breath seep from those lost to the flaming beast.

I’m afraid!

Afraid of what I might see will blind me. Blind me of my purpose, life.

i like this. it has a brittle simplicity that has a feel of introverted sefl-protection. There is the feeling of exploration, coupled with fear and a need to surivive--i like the imagery as well. tovli

I could definitely see a fireman having such a nightmare---especially if he were involved in an unsuccessful attempt to save lives. I have lots of respect for all the brave firefighters. Sharon

I have never been afraid of things going bump in the night; even in my dreams
they seem too real; too revealing to ignore or to fear

I get this though - it is the flashback line that ties this together
speaking of reliving old pains; old horrors
how they haunt your mind forever
and scar your soul

nicely done. :-)
