SPRING SHOWERS.

Sweet is the swart earth
After the April rain;
It will give the violets birth,
And quicken the grass in the plain.

The woodlands are dim"with dreams
Of the region they lately have left;
Like Man and his thoughts of Eden"
Of something of which he's bereft.

The stars they have left their veils
On the everlasting hills;
And angels have trodden the dales,
And spirits have touched the rills.

And truths to be seen and heard,
Say Love has made all things his own;
He reigns in the breast of the bird,
And has made the earth's bosom his throne.

The pansies peep by the brook,
And the primrose is pure in the sun;
The world wears a heavenly look,
Man's spirit and Nature are one.

The cottage that glints through the trees,
And the moss-cushioned, lilac-plumed wall,
The woodland, and emerald leas
Are touched with the Spirit of all.

There is a deliciously Pagan resonance to this one. Identifying the spirit of oneness is allness. Being able to appreciate its beauty in the subtleties of matter, often overlooked. A very enjoyable read. Thank you Mr. Warink.

I have no knowledge of Chamber's proclivities in such matters but I agree with you. There is a worship of nature or perhaps through the observation and interaction with nature that is key to understanding his words.

You can probably count on the fingers of one hand, the number of people that read that particular poem. At times I almost feel like an Paleopoetologist (that's a word, right? .. well, it is now.)

I love making new words. I do it all the time. This is a prime example of the word crafting.or should I say" "wordcrafting"
Someday, others will find the path that leads here to this beautiful write.
They too will be as blessed as I, when their thoughts are in tune and ready to comprehend it's essence. They will be grateful for the bread crumb trail you left.

A truly and beautiful write … optimistic one might say … we were more optimistic in our younger days.

Yes, indeed... youthful optimism. On a side note, in this age, we probably would not "genderize" love. As written it seems to come from a mind steeped in patriarcal notions and they seep and ooze about the edges of these meanderings.
