Cupped hands facing toward the heavens
Embrace, recognize and give thanks
The orb of life for countless generations
A journey of lifetimes untold and unsung
Multitudes gather to revel, to renew
Seeking companionship and communion
Their light-giving celebration bids adieu
Each circled-fire a kindled remembrance

this is beautiful...and that ancient observation is a reminder that we do much less observing today...and we are much less grateful for what we have around us...we are just always looking for more...
never satisfied...but companionship and communion are so important, lest we forget that.

You make some very good points, Jacob. Thank you for reading and your kind review. :)
Captivating for me, this read is.
I 'm trying so hard to grasps it's meaning, Yet there's a thought slapping my face that the jest is all the hoop de la and celebrations of their group therapy and enlightenment doesn't mean a thing cause they all wind up in the darkness anyway. And all end up needing to light a fire to see.
Whether you meant that or not that's what I hear and like it :-)
impressive writing.
I have always enjoyed the solstices, their mythology and their power in revealing the earths revolutions... and in the relationships to the sun and stars. You capture this feeling in your poem Tam.

Loved this piece of spirit and celebration. We would do well to remember … friend or foe … we are all in the same blue boat. You, of course, I count a friend.

On that boat of a million years do we invite only friends or foes as well and why? Rhetorically, perhaps to embrace one is to embrace the other. Two sides of the same coin, it is only the market place and the purchase that differ over time. And yet it is good to call one friend - as I do you too. Thank you for your sage words and considered reading, Pryde.

That boat IS star-worthy and voyage of a million years is already underway. Just saying:)
