Silence

Silence

A Poem by Natalia

When I walk all alone,

It’s not the same,

The wind whispers in a mournful moan,

As the fire that drove us on grows tame…

It’s a cold moonless night,

As weeping stars tell my story,

This air around me growing tight,

In a war there is no glory.

Fading memories sweep right past me,

This was never a game; you were never the fool,

A vision so clouded I could not see,

Our ghosts rush by in a silence so dark and cruel.

I hear your echo in the distant past,

I feel your presence all around,

I hoped you weren't the first but last,

Your memory vanishes without a sound,

These lonely streets voice my fears,

They make it as if you were never here,

Just as your love disappears,

The light goes out and I shed a tear…
