Pain

Pain

A Poem by Tally

The pain cuts through my soul

As a hot knife in butter

I cannot stop this pain of mine

Like the ashes of a fire, it never dies

Medication is what I have

To help me through my day

Painkillers for fast relief

Oh how I wish they worked

A ‘junkie’ is what I’ve become

Dependent upon the pills

If I stopped them what would happen

No one knows for sure

And now we have another day

Another one with pain

But stand up to it I will

Although my energy it saps
