Harbor

Harbor

A Poem by 'talie

Splash!

Quick as a flash,

Something slippery glides by.

Perhaps a chubby fish to fry,

Gleaming in the murky salt water.

Or maybe it’s something darker,

Something with sinister eyes and sharp teeth.

The thought crosses my mind as I hear an alarming screech.

Instantly, I pull my trailing fingers into the boat.

They won’t be a snack for the monster of this moat!

The alarm sounds again,

The yellow billed instrument sailing salty winds.

I wonder what it’d be like to peer down from above,

Preferably with the keen eyes of a hawk, as opposed to those of a dove.

A stale stench accompanied by a bellow

Mark the calling of a four flippered fellow.

But then a splash to the left, another on the right.

I look to the cause, and see beady eyes surrounded by fur bleached white.

She holds up a crab,

And with a quick grab,

She gulps down the meal

Before others can steal.
