Virginia Sun

Virginia Sun

A Poem by Angela Talbert

Virginia sun
lights the roadway
ahead of me
strapped in my old Nissan
Kelly Clarkson CD
fifty something, cyclist,
shirtless, tan and
hair pulled back
passes swiftly by
“Beautiful Disaster”
up full blast
my little rocket ship
escape
down whichever road
I choose
passing custard stands
and thrift shops
now all in my
rear view
like hindsight
“Oh, I didn’t see that!”
so I slow down
make a u turn
and go back
and once I get there
just like hindsight
the shiny locket
was just discarded foil
in the warmth
of the Virginia sun.

Author's Note

Angela Talbert
Not sure the meaning was conveyed here...I was trying to say that the escape maybe was not so necessary that in hindsight some of our problems are not so big after all...I will probably revise this. Ideas are welcome.
