GlitterA Poem by Casey
I do not love you
You should know this by now You send me lyrics to songs You think I don't know the words to But I do I've known for quite some time Your good mornings and good evenings Litter my phone The way glitter or sand Gets between spaces on the floor Even after you've cleaned it up No matter how much washing Or sweeping Or sucking Or burning I do, you're still there I do not want you there You are a secret I kept to myself When you no longer wanted To be the shameful walk home I shared you with her I wiped you clean out of my hands Into her ready plate She was supposed to save you For a moment you let her You chose her to take home But you asked me to the dance after And yet like glitter or sand I still find flecks or grains Still stuck in my hair I do not love you Not because you're not wonderful and sweet and thoughtful and amazing Because you are You are the childhood memories Of macaroni sculptures And homemade birthday cards You are the warmth between toes From watching Perfect sunrise and sunsets No, I do not love you Because I can't Please stop asking her How my heart is Because it's doing fine
