High Horse

High Horse

A Poem by Christopher Tait
"

A reaction to someone's arrogance...

"

But what if you fall?

Do you really think

that I’ll always be there

to catch you,

to cushion you,

to save you?

Do you take me

for granted,

for a given,

for an absolute,

for permanence?

If I’m not there,

then the fall

is that

much

more

dangerous.

Please give me

the respect

that I deserve

and that I know

you can give.

You weren’t always

like this, and I know

that you can change.

You just have to

want to.

But if you don’t, I’ll go,

and you’ll have a

good view on

your high horse

of me leaving.

And I won’t come back.

Who, then, will catch you

if you tumble,

if you stumble,

if you fall?

The first stanza is so fluid, like a paintbrush on a canvas. There are some awkward wordings in areas but I love the message and the growth of it.
