Pleasing Poison

Pleasing Poison

A Poem by ¿
"

.

"

Furling a piece of foil
into a hollow little roll
he puffs pleasing poison;
sleeps isolated from realism
There are pipe dreams in his eyes,
brightens when twilight disappears
His comatose brain films radiant reveries
at night, within his mind’s stilled senses
Ordeals of failure constrained him to shut
the shop of sterling virtues residing in his heart
Switched it to exhibition of aggressive notions;
inaugurated bad blood between him and life
When he finds no pleasing poison,
lacerating arms calms him down
Thirst and hunger abandoned
He’s a spectacular skeleton
in loneliness’s grave
  sans elation

I really enjoyed reading this, I was a heroin addict, started with smoking it in cigarettes, then chasing the dragon and then injecting it, fortunately listened to the voice of reason and quit a couple of years ago, this poem really captures all that really well, pleasing poison indeed, you really start losing it in quite a short amount of time, try to quit but it's just too difficult to quit and stay off it for good, lacerating arms and all, I've been there, haha, withdrawal is the worst, nothing calms you down, too tired to walk, painful to sit, can't sleep, eat nothing, until the next fix, glad I got off it, anyway, I'm rambling, this is well written.

' He’s a spectacular skeleton - in loneliness’s grave - sans elation '

That anyone can find a means of creating beauty about addiction is beyond my understanding.. and yet, you have. Not sure what to say except your skill with words - especially these, is incredible, visiual and yet in some strange way, unique, stripped of subtlety.. the theme remains ugly and not magical.. yet you've cushioned its sin. Perhaps.

Hi Emma! I think all the sins and goods of this earth are worth to be praised...and so I gave a try .. read more
and each time the brain gets more comatose...the skeleton with less bone...loneliness is the digger of the grave he has put himself in...
the shop of optimism, definitely closed for repair.

Indeed, people take drugs to feel good, but in reality they are a
"skeleton
in loneliness's grave
sans elation"

and unfortunately to the drug user drugs are "Pleasing Poison"
I enjoyed reading your work. Write on!

These fine words are most deserving of the 27 sets of individual review comments they have so far notched up.. I shall be the 28th contributor and am proud to have found them before they hit treble figures, as I'm sure in time they will .. the visual appeal also adds to the readers enjoyment as its form resembles a tear a broken ampule maybe and the bowl of a chillum or crack pipe.. thoroughly enjoyed.. Very well written. I walked up to that edge in my youth and managed to turn back before going off. Lots of people I knew and grew up with did not. Your words reminded me of how close i was to it. Thanks!

Wow Z this is so sad and so true, I have lost more people than I care to say to drug use. I have never been able to write my feelings on the subject yet. I usually just feel to upset to let it flow. But you did a fine job of it in this write.
