Jasper Has A Bad Day

Jasper Has A Bad Day

A Chapter by LovelyYou

'I wonder how he is….he seemed pretty upset when I le-got kicked out.' Jasper thought wearily. He glared at the stacks of paper covering his desk. There hadn't been any time to check up on Zane, which was somewhat beneficial because that gave him an excuse. It wasn't that he didn't want to go see the vampire; he just didn't think it would be good for his health. Or life, really. The worn-out detective slumped against his desk and groaned weakly. 'Maybe I'll get a bit of time off after this load. I mean, they have to leave me a little personal life…don't they?'

Just then a stiff, determined knock on the oak door to Jasper's office declared a visitor. "Come in," Jasper called out. 'Please, please don't be-' "Hallo, Mr. Winters. I'm pleased to see you are still here." A short man with a ruddy face and thin hair stepped into the office. He nervously ran his hands down his suit jacket and twisted them together. Jasper flicked his hair out of his eyes and raised a dark eyebrow. "That might be because of the avalanche of paperwork that seems to have accumulated on my desk, don't cha think?" The man giggled uneasily and tugged at his collar a little."Uh, yes, Th-that might have someth-thing to do with it. Just a l-little." The seated detective waved to the chair in front of his desk. "That's not why you're here though, is it Mr. Jones?" The newly identified man, Mr. Jones, scrambled into the chair and shook his head quickly. "Uh, no, its not. Actually, I'm here to offer you a very important case."

The silence tightened around the two detectives, almost smothering them. 'I can't believe this! I'm not even *close* to done with the work I already have and now I'll have this too!' He sighed and gave up the fight between him and Fate. Clearly, he wasn't going to win so why try? "And what, exactly, might this case be?" Mr. Jones gave him the name of the file and Jasper typed it into his document search. The file was displayed and he reviewed it. Slowly, then again one more time. "Are you serious? You come into this tiny cramped office and see what's already taking up all of my time and you still ask me to solve this crap? I've got rapist case after murder case after drug bust going unsolved and you ask me to solve a bloody convenient store robbery?" Jasper jumped out of his chair and stomped to the door yanking it back open. "GET OUT!" He screamed. Mr. Jones ran out the door and barely made it before Jasper slammed it shut.

'Unbelievable! I can't"ugh! That's it, I don't care if I have three hundred files to work on. Time off is what I need.' Jasper slouched down so far into his desk chair his head hit the desk with a dull 'thump'. It was then that a soft, timid knock came from the door. 'Oh you have *got* to be kidding me!' A young girl popped her head into the office and the detective recognized her as Mr. Jones's secretary. "Sir," she said fast and soft, "Mr. Jones thinks it would be wise if you took a week, maybe more, off of work. He says it'll do you good." He rolled his eyes and nodded to show he understood. The girl slipped out of the office and quietly shut the door. 'Maybe I should get a secretary. They seem very useful.' Jasper stood up and gathered the most important files before leaving the office himself.

'Finally, a break! Maybe I should check on Zane now?'

Zane shifted in his seat. 'When will he come? He hasn't been here in *ages*!' Currently, the Master Vampire was bored out of his mind waiting for his new favorite plaything. He thought about the detective frequently. Jasper Winters was a puzzle, taunting Zane with missing pieces and bits of pieces. The tall chestnut haired man just didn't seem like anybody else. Nobody was as interesting…as intriguing as the detective. Finally, the vampire got tired of waiting and got up to have some fun.

Now, many don't know this but vampires are very gifted in elemental and mind magick. Master Vampires were especially gifted with these talents, among others. As Zane went to walk out the door, he heard a whisper in the back of his mind. *…a bloody convenient store robbery?* He stopped and listened for about two seconds more before deciding it was his imagination and headed out the door. *GET OUT!*

There are many traits that Zane has that come with living forever but tolerance wasn't yet one of them. 'Surely, that's not Jaz? But it does sound like him…Its to early for a mind link…Isn't it?' With his new knowledge, Zane rushed out the door determined to find Jaz and rough up whoever made him so upset. Just one day with the man and Zane could tell that he wasn't someone who was easily ticked off. So who had done it? And why?

Jasper had his files and was preparing to walk out the agency when the outside door burst open and there stood the one person he was planning on going to. But why was he here and why was he mad? "Zane? What's the matter?" He asked the vampire. Zane whipped his head around and, before he could stop it, a big grin split across his face. "Jaz! Where ya goin'? And I came to see you." Jasper stopped and thought about that for a second. 'He came to see me? Jaz? What the--?' He went to grab his jacket and realized it was already on him. Suspiciously, he looked at the vampire who was whistling innocently.

Shaking his head, Jasper tried to clear his thoughts a little so he could answer Zane. "I was just granted a week or more time off. Ironically, I was coming to see if I could spend it with you." The vampire raised a dark brow and nodded. "Of course you can. But on one condition!" The detective tilted his head questioningly. "Absolutely NO work! So you just keep those files here!" Jasper sighed and went back into his office to drop off the files and slipped back out to Zane. "Alright, let's go." Zane giggled and bounced up and down a couple of times. 'A whole week to pick his brai"I mean…get to know each other! Hehehe…'

A humourous chapter!
I'm not really high on the idea of the scenebreaks. Try not to have too many. If you want scenebreaks limit them to one per chapter or just start a new chapter per scenebreak.
hahas, Zane sounds like an interesting character

Haha suddenly everything has changed....Jasper has turned into the angry, frustrated dude and Zane is now happy and bubbly. The tension in the room is high when jasper is given alot of work but it is slowly eased into a calm mood when he is then given a weeks off. i wonder though what zane was going to say in the last sentence?? would it be "a whole week to pick his brains? or something? anyway good to see you create your characters with more than one standout quality.
