Suffering

Suffering

A Poem by Chris
"

True nature of suffering explored.

"

Suffering

Does the pain in your heart weigh

Like a thousand pounds resting

So softly against your chest

So as not to break it

But instead to fray upon its structure

To hold like a hostage

Unable to break free

Tell me

When you cry does it burn

Like acid dripping down

Against your cheek

Bearing it’s mark

Leaving behind nothing

But a bright red scar

Noticeable to all

Though understood by few

Speak to me

Are your legs

Heavy like lead

Molten to the earth

Unable to go forward

Unable to continue

Simply stuck

Left to grow tiresome and pain

Listen to me

If this seems to strike-

Pertinent in your vitality

If this seems to describe-

The entirety of your being

Then surely you must be mistaken

As those so unfortunate to feel

The pain

The sadness

The hunger

The thirst

That comes to infringe upon worldly rights

Do not pity themselves

But instead are pitied

As those that are hurt

Do not show weakness

To prevent those from exploiting it

As those that gloom

Do not cry

To keep others strong

As those that ache in their stomach

Do not make a groan of discomfort

To keep other unaware

As those that thirst

Simply wait

Until death arrives

For those that truly feel

Struggling at their core

Will never tell you of this pain

Will never cry on a shoulder

Will never confide in a friend

For those that understand hurt

Understand that it must be kept hidden

Like a secret to dark to be told

As if others were to hear it

Not would they be benefited

Instead worsened

So if you find it within yourself

A pain

So strong

That it cannot be shared

Then maybe

Just maybe

This poem describes you

But for those that have yet to feel

Do not go searching

For what you do not want to-

Find out.
