Are you Serious?

Are you Serious?

A Chapter by Tabby

I decided to go home for the final time, it must have been a couple hours that I fell asleep cause it was almost dark before I woke. I stood up holding my head with aching pain.

“Ow, what happened? Where did he go?” I kept thinking about all the things I couldn’t answer. I started walking towards the house but before I could go into the opening I saw something. Glory was crying by the window and I’ve never seen her so ‘not her’. She looked like she hasn’t had sleep for days. She was a complete disaster.

I was going to take another step but Glory looked up and I thought she was looking at me but she wasn’t. She was listening to our mom, I guessed. Then her face turned angry and she screamed back at her. This is something I’ve never seen or heard Glory do before. This made me go see what was going on.

My hand was on the door handle but I didn’t want to open cause I knew this house was under a dark spell or something. With a last breath I opened the door and stepped inside. All eyes went to me.

“Oh my god!” my mother said running over to me to give the tightest hug I’ve ever had. “Where have you been?” she asked demanding an answer.

“I was at Toby’s. I thought Glory would have told you,” I said questioning my answer.

My mom looked at Glory and she wiped her tears then stood up.

“I forgot to tell you. Sorry,” Glory said walking towards Mom.

My mother just looks at her, closes her eyes, and takes a deep breath. Before I could speak my mother jumps in.

“I think you should sit down Len,” my mom said walking towards the living room. She hasn’t called me Len in 5 years so I knew it was bad.

I went into the living room and sat as far away as possible from them.

“What happened?” I ask breaking the silence.

“We found out some more information about your father’s death,” Mom said trying not to cry.

“Mom you don’t have to have to tell her. She doesn’t care,” Glory said with angry and sadness in her voice.

“She needs to know Glory whether you like it or not,” my mom said giving her a glare. “You need to leave, now,” she told Glory so Glory got up and left.

“I know you loved your father but was never close to him,” my mom said coming next to me. “Your father was a good man and I hope you know that,” she said.

“Get to the point,” I said not wanting to know with that introduction.

“My point is that your father’s death wasn’t an accident. It’s now a homicide and if ANYTHING is strange or such we need to know!” she said with such anxiety in her voice.

I sat there with that on my mind along with everything else and the headache. “Who’s ‘we’,” I ask looking at her.

I looked away while she sighed and said, “’we’ is the police and I.”

“Okay, I’ll tell you,” I said standing up. “Where are the twins?” I ask.

“In their room,” she said.

“Okay, thanks,” I said walking out of the room but she grabbed my arm.

“Be careful with them Lenex, they aren’t in good shape,” she said and I knew what she meant.

I smiled halfly then went upstairs. I got to the top of the stairs by their door and I could hear laughter that was real. It seemed like forever again that I’ve heard that. I opened their door just a little and peeked in. I saw them smiling and laughing just like nothing was wrong. I found myself smiling and it felt like everything was just lifted off of my shoulders.

“Hey,” I say as I knock on their door.

Taylor looks up and runs to me as Tsunami follows. They hug me and I hug them back.

“Your back!” Tsunami says.

“I wasn’t gone that long,” I say.

“It sure felt like it,” Taylor says as they both let go.

I smile and close their door to let them be. I stood their just thinking and smiling. I remembered before all the chaos and mystery that we have been through. I figured then that I should spend the day making everyone smile.

I went back to my room and closed the door. I needed time to think but everything was caught up in my head and I couldn’t think a bit straight. The note, dad’s death, the person in the forest, it was all too much. I heard a rumbling noise to find out it’s my stomach. I haven’t eaten since before Toby’s house. I look at myself in the mirror and think “maybe this was suppose to happen or maybe it’s all a dream…” then Glory walks into my room.

“Knock, knock. May I come in?” Glory asks as I nod.

I look at her and her face is saying things I never thought it could say. It said anger, frustration, disappointment, and scared, all at the same time. She sat on my bed across the room from me and she opened her mouth to say something but I stopped her…

“I know that I haven’t been here but there’s something else that has happened isn’t there?” Glory just looked at me with eyes that said that I was crazy and stupid.

“Lenex, you don’t know everything that Mom and I do. There is a lot that you should know but you don’t. I don’t know where to start or how to say it, though. And Mom… well let’s just say that she’s very good at acting,” Glory said looking terrified.

“Glory, you can’t hide everything from me cause I find out no matter what so just tell me!” I demanded from her.

Glory stood up as she was about to swing her arm and I have never seen her so fierce but then she fell down and started bawling. She hovered her knees and I didn’t know what to do. I bended down in disbelief and put my hand on her back. I have never seen my sister like this and I didn’t like it.

It took a long time, like 5 minutes before she finally got up and said “Dad… Dad isn’t dead, is he?”
