ShadesA Poem by Jared AustinAlone in a crowd
what am I doing here?
do They see Me?
immersed in a crowd,
voices revolve around Me,
guiding Them toward indecipherable goals.
am I real? whole? unreachable?
a shadow observing Theater?
joy, sadness, excitement, boredom -
water to strengthen and help Them blossom
from old shells.
what must I do?
where shall I drift?
I’m an alien piecing together a puzzle.
the picture is a maelstrom,
yet They translate.
what was added or forgotten
that muddled clarity,
agitating ease?
I continue rearranging perception,
missing what They wield…effortlessly.
